Camel Safari: Three Nights, Four Days Around Jaisalmer
Our longest village route — four days through Rajput, Meghwal, Sindhi Muslim and Bhil settlements, including a stop at Korwa, the oldest Rajput village on the route, still home to its old chopal storytelling tradition.
The Route
Day One
Start at 9am after breakfast on camels.
A mixed-caste village with a 70-year history, still home to a joint gathering of every caste for festivals and marriages, each community performing its allotted role.
A 270-year-old Rajput village — the martial caste who served the estate army in exchange for land. Today the main occupation is agriculture and livestock. Lunch is taken near a small oasis.
A Bhil community village — a tribal caste who traditionally lived by hunting and forging iron into weapons, now settled as farmers and cattle grazers in old mud houses.
A mixed-caste village roughly 150 years old, mainly Meghwal and Rajput. Overnight stay at Kotadi, followed by dinner.
Day Two
After breakfast, departure on camels.
A 270-year-old Rajput village, once part of the estate army; today its main occupation is agriculture and livestock.
A Meghwal community village, traditionally skinning and tanning leather; its history goes back around 60 years. Lunch is taken at the water storage area.
A mixed-caste village — as families in the small villages nearby grow, they settle a new hamlet close by, and Soobh is one such offshoot.
The oldest Rajput village on this route. Korwa still keeps its chopal tradition alive — an elder with his hookah, surrounded by villagers trading old legends. Overnight camp on the Korwa dunes, followed by dinner.
Day Three
Start at 9am after breakfast on camels.
A mixed-caste settlement roughly 2000 years old, named after Lord Krishna's half-lion, half-human incarnation, Narasimha.
A 250-year-old Rajput village, once part of the estate army, today living by agriculture and livestock.
A 175-year-old Sindhi Muslim village, settled by families who came from Sindh after the India–Pakistan partition. Lunch is taken by the water storage area.
The 400-year-old village once granted to Rajput court poets. Overnight camp on the Bhoo dunes, followed by dinner.
Day Four
Start at 9am after breakfast on camels, for the ride back to Jaisalmer.
A Meghwal community village, traditionally skinning and tanning; its history goes back around 40 years.
A Muslim family settlement, farming the land around their mud huts through the monsoon before selling produce in town.
A man-made monsoon water storage point. Lunch and an hour's rest here.
The final stretch back to Jaisalmer, arriving by around 4:00–4:30pm.
