Camel Safari: One Night, Two Days Around Jaisalmer

A mixed-caste village with a 70-year history. Dhawa has long been home to people of all castes and cultures, and its traditions are still followed today — festivals and marriages are celebrated as a joint gathering, with every community performing its allotted role.

A Muslim village, lunch stop. Around 230 years old, named after a Paliwal known as Poll Jee who kept a cow shed here supplying milk to nearby areas. The land was gradually taken over by other families and castes; the village was once evacuated after a disagreement with Jaisalmer's ministers, and its people returned only decades later to resume the same trade.

Named for the same Paliwal dairyman, Poll Jee, whose cow shed once supplied milk to the surrounding villages.

Once a favoured village of Rajput dynasties — home to the court poets who sang songs of bravery to raise soldiers' morale before battle. This 400-year-old village was granted to those poets by the ruling king. Overnight camp on the Bhoo village dunes, followed by dinner.

A Bhil community village — a tribal caste who traditionally lived by hunting and forging iron into arrows and swords. Originally nomadic, they have farmed and bred camels here for the last 50–60 years. "Joga" itself means nomads.

A Meghwal community village whose traditional occupation was skinning and tanning, making leather containers for water and footwear. Its history goes back around 40 years.

A "Dhani" — a settlement belonging to one family or caste — inhabited by a Muslim family who farmed the surrounding land and moved to the nearest town to sell their produce after each harvest.

A man-made monsoon water storage point, historically the main source of drinking water for both animals and villagers. Lunch and an hour's rest here.

The ride back to Jaisalmer on camels, arriving by around 4:00–4:30pm.
